The future of EMC activities shall focus on the 5 most important sectors of mankind for now and the next 50 years – as follows:
- Climate change: EMC tests will be concentrated to EMCE although EMC testing is not directly related in reducing fossil fuel production or greenhouse gases but will be shifted to renewable energy equipment.
- Declining population: EMC has never played a role here however, there are future challenges such as EMC and biological evolution (e.g. the influence of EMC on stem cell research).
- Waste disposal (e.g. plastic ...): This issue will come up rather sooner than later on how EMC testing can influence a reduction in waste.
- Military defense: EMC is well established in this sector and testing will increase due to development of military robotics (e.g. drones …) although the testing will be focused on the wireless sector.
- Cyber security: Like mentioned earlier, also in this field EMC testing (mostly wireless) will increase and will be important for electronic systems to interact. Overall: In the last 20 years, EMC testing has been mostly applied to electrical (electronic) equipment for “general use”. While these applications are decreasing, EMC testing will increase on the sectors mentioned above; particular for wireless applications (i.e. ESD or EFT/B testing will decrease).
